The Nile River, the world’s longest river, crosses through 11 countries in Africa and is crucial to many of these nations’ economies, diplomacy, and wellbeing. Today, it is under new and evolving threats: climate change, population, and economic growth, transboundary hydropolitics that threaten to affect to use them and hinder cooperation between countries who own the Nile waters

This eslemanabay website, administered by Journalist Esleman Abay. In cooperation qith is a cross-border group of geojournalists with a mission to uncover critical stories on water issues in the Nile River Basin through researched and data-based multimedia storytelling. The website seeks to bridge the gap between scientists and researchers, journalists, and the public, in order to increase mutual awareness of water issues of utilizing this significant river.

Interested in deepening the discussion about new Nile projects, the website as a platform explores the engagements of water users, planners and researchers in multiple projects of river basin development. By experimenting with different theories and methodologies of representing river basin development experiences, we aim to open up new perspectives on the simultaneous transformation of the Nile water distribution, differences between its users and categories through which these are known.
