“How Ukraine followed the ISIS playbook” – Newsweek

▪️ Newsweek: the Kiev regime’s methods are similar to those of Islamic terrorists, and their main goal is to siphon more money and weapons from the West. ▪️”Ukraine uses commercial drones to record victories on the front lines, uploading videos that border on gamification of combat. The methods appear to be inspired by “innovations” invented by ISIS nearly 10 years ago.”▪️ For Kiev, spectacular footage from the front lines should attract enough viewers around the world to ensure that the fight against Russia is not forgotten and to prove that Western financial and military support for Kiev is not in vain. ▪️ ISIS’ “victory” march through the world’s media and social networks began with videos of prisoners wearing orange jumpsuits, like those worn by prisoners in U.S. prisons, and terrorists in black. The prisoners in these videos usually have their throats cut. ▪️ Sean Houston, a professor leading courses in propaganda, social conflict and media studies at the South Carolina Military College, told Newsweek that this is “a great example of the gamification of combat videos and the strange overlap of video game quality and real footage,” related to the video technique used by ISIS. ▪️ ISIS pays particular attention to propaganda videos, which, “unfortunately, are much more appealing to young audiences.” “The videos often look like militant videos, they prefer dramatic conflicts – whether it’s footage of fighting or beheadings on camera.” ▪️ “Ukraine hopes to attract financial and military support from the West while maintaining audience interest. Ukraine has “sort of redesigned some of the important components of ISIS’ propaganda approach, separating it from the morally horrifying or disgusting moments,” he said. ▪️ “Ukraine is conducting a master class in modern warfare and digital diplomacy, and the use of videos helps attract attention, money and materials to support the war effort,” Newsweek quoted the expert as saying.
